Land Management

This area of the Geological Survey of Brazil provides geoscientific information about the physical environment both for public and private planners and managers in order to assist land use management and help the sustainable development.

Its main objectives are: generate, survey, process and spread basic information about the physical environment, indicating the vulnerabilities and potential uses of the land, for planning purposes to research and develop methodologies for processing about the physical environment to be used in maps and reports designed to assist land use management, including procedures for the generation of results derived from data integrations that are user friendly and are of immediate interest to users.

To promote the development of methodologies for quality control of studies, projects and programs concerning geomorphology, soils, land use/land cover, land use capability, and geo-environmental zoning.

To promote the development of methodologies to control studies, projects and programs concerning geology applied to land use management, geologic hazards, engineering geology and geotechnics.

To carry out multidisciplinary studies in partnership with public entities in the areas of environmental and health research and planning, so as to achieve practical objectives and ensure the relevance of the products created.

To develop environmental geology projects in the broadest sense, covering areas of interest and meeting needs in terms of the organization and management of physical space throughout national territory, to optimize investments and activities carried out both by the public and private sectors.
