Geology

This area includes geological and geochemical mapping at scales 1:250.000 and 1:100.000. Higher scale maps are occasionally produced if there they are perceived to be of social or economic value. This core topic is at the heart of the organization’s output; it receives most of the budget and has the largest number of personnel involved. The same area also develops environmental applications for geological knowledge and the prevention of geological hazards, which have always been pursued in partnership with different spheres of government. It relies upon a system of databases, or the “Geobank”, which includes modules on the whole range of geological features, such as outcrops, lithostratigraphic units, geochemical analyses, mineral resources etc.
